Using policy-based settings, Enterprise Vault enables you to archive or even block or delete files by file type, age, or other criteria. Items are deduplicated, comopressed, stored and indexed centrally by Enterprise Vault software, and can be searched as weell as retrieved transparently by users via optional placeholders. Through the unique versioning capability of Enterprise Vault, a record of change over time can be maintained, which may be crucial in compliance and discovery scenarios.

Enterprise Vault Discovery Accelerator extends the basic search functionality of Enterprise Vault email and file archiving to help lower the cost of data collection and to facilitate the search and recovery of archived items in electronic discovery. The release of the Symantec E-Discovery connector extends the Discovery Accelerator chain of custody to include third-party analytics, case management, and review solutions. The connector provides significant enhancements, delivery an easy-to-use, repeatable, defensible, and efficient means to import files into third party tools.
The E-Discovery Connector allows third-party case management tools to deeply integrate with Discovery Accelerator to allow them to interrogate and search items in DA cases without moving the items and breaking the "chain of custody." Inside counsel maintains centralized visibility into what has been produced and where it has been sent, with reporting about work completed by outside counsel or internal investigators.
